Masseter Treatment in Sheffield
Jaw clenching, teeth grinding & facial slimming
If you clench your jaw, grind your teeth or feel like your jaw muscles are constantly tense, masseter treatment may help.
The masseter is the strong muscle at the side of the jaw. In some people it can become overactive or bulky, which can cause tension and also make the lower face look wider. At Saints, we use anti-wrinkle treatment to relax this muscle and reduce how strongly it contracts.

About This Treatment
Consultation First
You'll need a face-to-face consultation with one of our nurse prescribers before treatment. We'll have a look at how strong your jaw muscles are, whether one side is stronger than the other, and what you're actually hoping to improve — not every heavy or wide jaw is caused by the masseter, so we'll always assess you properly first.
If you wake up with a tight jaw, clench during the day or grind your teeth at night, an overactive masseter may be part of the problem. If you have ongoing jaw pain or dental problems, we may also recommend speaking to your dentist, as there can be other causes too.
Benefits
What Can It Help With?
Masseter treatment can be used for jaw clenching, teeth grinding, jaw tension, aching around the jaw, a bulky or strong jaw muscle, and a wider or more square-looking lower face. It can also be used for facial slimming if the width of the lower face is coming from the masseter muscle.
If your masseter muscles are particularly strong or bulky, relaxing them can gradually make the muscle less prominent, giving the lower face a softer, slimmer appearance — this happens gradually, so it isn't an instant change.
Your Treatment
What Happens During Treatment?
A small amount of anti-wrinkle treatment is injected into specific points in the masseter muscle. The aim is to relax the muscle enough to reduce excessive clenching without affecting normal chewing. The treatment itself is quick, with very little downtime.
Additional Information
What If Masseter Treatment Isn't Right For Me?
Sometimes a softer jawline, jowling or heaviness through the lower face isn't being caused by the jaw muscle at all — it could be skin laxity, volume loss, chin shape, fullness under the chin or a combination of things. If we think another treatment would suit you better, we'll tell you — that might include chin filler, facial balancing, HIFU or RF microneedling, depending on what we see.
At Saints Aesthetics, we don't treat every jaw the same. We'll look at your muscle strength, your face shape and what you want to improve before deciding whether masseter treatment is right for you — sometimes the goal is less clenching, sometimes it's a softer jawline, and sometimes it's both.
Results, Downtime & Aftercare
When Will I See A Difference?
Most people start to notice less strength in the muscle over the first few weeks. If you're having treatment for facial slimming, the visible change usually takes longer, as the muscle gradually reduces in size. Results are usually around 4–6 months, although this can depend on how strong your muscles are and how your body responds to treatment.
Downtime isn't usual — you may have a little redness, tenderness or bruising around the injection points, but this normally settles quickly. Your review is included and takes place 21–28 days after treatment, giving the treatment enough time to settle so we can properly check how both sides have responded and discuss any clinically appropriate adjustment.
