HIFU Face & Neck in Sheffield

Lift, tighten and define — without adding volume

Not every softer jawline or heavier lower face needs filler. Sometimes the concern is skin laxity and loss of firmness, which is where HIFU can be a great option.

At Saints Aesthetics, we use HIFU to target deeper layers beneath the skin, stimulating collagen and helping to gradually tighten, lift and improve definition. There are no injections and no filler — just a treatment designed to work with your own collagen response.

About This Treatment

What Is HIFU?

HIFU stands for High Intensity Focused Ultrasound. It delivers focused ultrasound energy at controlled depths beneath the skin, creating points of thermal energy which trigger the body's natural healing and collagen-remodelling response.

The surface of the skin remains intact while we're able to target deeper tissue. This is why HIFU results aren't instant — your body needs time to produce and remodel collagen.

Benefits & Areas

What Can HIFU Help With?

We use HIFU for concerns including softer or less defined jawlines, early jowling, skin laxity, loss of firmness, lower-face heaviness, loose skin beneath the chin, neck laxity and general loss of facial definition. It's particularly popular with clients who feel their lower face has started to change but don't necessarily want dermal filler.

The jawline and jowls are one of our favourite areas to treat — as we age, changes in collagen, skin elasticity, facial fat and underlying structures can all contribute to a heavier or less defined lower face, and HIFU can be used strategically through the lower face and jawline to help create a firmer, more defined appearance over time. HIFU can also be used beneath the chin where laxity is contributing to a softer profile, and on the neck to improve firmness and mild-to-moderate skin laxity.

Your Treatment

What Happens During HIFU?

We'll start by assessing your face, skin and the areas you're concerned about. The treatment area is mapped before ultrasound energy is delivered at carefully selected depths. You'll feel pulses of energy beneath the skin as we work across the treatment area — treatment time depends on the area we're treating.

Everyone experiences HIFU differently. You may feel warmth, tingling or short, sharp sensations as the energy is delivered, particularly around bonier areas such as the jawline. We adjust the treatment appropriately while still delivering the energy needed for an effective treatment.

Additional Information

Is HIFU The Right Treatment For You?

It's important to be realistic — HIFU isn't a surgical facelift and it can't remove significant amounts of loose skin. Not every double chin is caused by loose skin either; if there's significant fatty tissue beneath the chin, treating skin laxity alone may not give you the result you're hoping for. And if your main neck concern is very crepey skin, prominent platysmal bands or more significant laxity, we may recommend a different treatment or combination — such as RF microneedling, CO2 laser or anti-wrinkle treatment for platysmal bands. We'll assess what's actually contributing to the area before recommending treatment, and tell you honestly whether we think you're a good candidate.

HIFU and dermal filler do completely different jobs — filler replaces volume or adds structure, while HIFU improves firmness, laxity and definition without adding volume. HIFU and RF microneedling both stimulate collagen but work differently too: HIFU works at deeper targeted levels beneath the skin for lifting, tightening and definition, while RF microneedling combines needles with radiofrequency energy and can be particularly useful for skin texture, acne scarring, pores, crepey skin and laxity. For some clients, we may use both as part of a longer-term plan, alongside CO2 laser, Sculptra, skin boosters, polynucleotides, anti-wrinkle treatment or dermal filler where appropriate — we don't believe in treating everything at once, and will build your plan around what's actually causing the concern.

Results, Downtime & Aftercare

When Will I See Results?

One of the advantages of HIFU is that there's usually very little downtime. You may experience mild redness, tenderness, slight swelling, tingling or sensitivity when touching the area — these effects are usually temporary, and we'll explain what to expect and give you full aftercare advice.

You may notice some initial firmness following treatment, but HIFU is really about the gradual result — collagen stimulation and remodelling take time. You'll usually begin to notice changes developing over the following weeks, with results continuing to improve over the following months. This isn't an instant-lift treatment, and that's exactly why the result can look so natural.

How many treatments you'll need depends on your age, skin quality, degree of laxity and the area we're treating — some clients achieve their desired result after one treatment, while others benefit from further sessions, and we'll recommend what we genuinely think is appropriate rather than putting everyone on the same course. Results vary between clients because HIFU relies on your body's own collagen response; ageing doesn't stop after treatment, but the new collagen produced can help support the skin over time, and maintenance may be recommended depending on your skin, age and how you respond.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is HIFU a facelift alternative?

Not exactly — HIFU isn't a surgical facelift and can't remove significant amounts of loose skin. It's better suited to improving firmness, laxity and definition gradually, using your own collagen response.

What's the difference between HIFU and RF microneedling?

Both stimulate collagen but work differently — HIFU works at deeper levels for lifting, tightening and definition, while RF microneedling suits skin texture, acne scarring, pores, crepey skin and laxity. For some clients, we may use both as part of a longer-term plan.

Can HIFU be combined with other treatments?

Yes — depending on what we're trying to improve, your plan might include RF microneedling, CO2 laser, Sculptra, skin boosters, polynucleotides, anti-wrinkle treatment or dermal filler where appropriate. We'll build your plan around what's actually causing the concern rather than treating everything at once.
