Dermaplaning
What is Dermaplaning?
Dermaplaning is a skin treatment that uses a specialized blade — similar to a surgical scalpel— to remove dead skin and hairs.
The procedure aims to give facial skin a smooth, youthful, and radiant appearance. As well as smoothing skin and removing “peach fuzz,” proponents claim that dermaplaning can help with acne scars, dry skin, sun-damaged skin, and small wrinkles
What are the benefits of dermaplaning?
Dermaplaning is an excellent form of surface exfoliation, as it removes the top layer of dead skin cells. This in turn can leave skin looking brighter, with more of a glow, and skincare products are more easily (and better) absorbed, meaning potentially better skin on the whole.
As mentioned, dermaplaning also removes ‘peach fuzz’ from the face, which some can become self conscious about. This can boost confidence and also promote more of a smooth foundation finish on your new baby-soft complexion.
It’s also worth taking note that while dermaplaning is great for skin that’s ageing, dull, dry, or sun damaged, certain skin types should avoid it at all costs for risk of irritation. If you suffer from extreme sensitivity with things like rosacea, you’re best to steer clear, while if you have acne, it’s best not to take a blade to it in this way!
What about dermaplaning aftercare?
After a treatment, you will likely experience some redness, but nothing that will prevent you from going out or carrying on with life as normal.
It is recommended that you avoid wearing make-up for a couple of days following your treatment to let things settle, and regarding skincare, it’s best to stick to super nourishing
products, rather than anything harsh or acidic. Make sure you remember the SPF, too, as dermaplaning can increase sun sensitivity.
